If your property has flaking or bubbling paint and you can see the pre-existing timber is probably time you thought about having the exterior paint removed before further damage is done to your home.
It is recommended that all cracking, flaking and peeling paint be completely removed back to bare wood. This is to that you can avoid further problems with the paint sticking later in the paints life.
If your exterior paint is flaking as severe as the above, the following process will need to be carried out.
Simple test can be carried out, simply by creating a cross section on the house where it is flaking;
If tape removes paint to bare timbre it is a sure sign that the paint has not adhered correctly to the wooden surface. If this is the case the exterior paint will be in need of stripping back and re-paint. Recommend to carried test out 4-5 times around different parts of the building.
If your house has not been re-painted or is pre- 1980’s it is highly recommended that a lead test be carried out on the exterior paint. Westend Painters Ltd will carry this out free of charge.
